Is Speechify free?

Partly. Speechify has a free plan, but it’s the basic version: its own pricing page lists 10 voices it calls “robotic sounding”, speeds up to 1.5× and text to speech only. The natural voices, faster speeds, page scanning and AI features are in Premium, a subscription that costs $29 a month or $139 a year on speechify.com (October 2026). If you just want text read aloud for free on an iPhone, the built-in Speak Screen does it in many languages, and Oplæs reads English and Danish in natural voices for free.

What the free plan includes

According to Speechify’s pricing page, the free plan gives you:

That’s enough to try the app. The voices most people install Speechify for are not part of it.

What Premium costs

Premium adds over 1,000 natural voices in more than 60 languages, speeds up to 5×, Scan & Listen for printed pages, AI summaries and chat, and voice typing. On speechify.com it costs $29 a month billed monthly, or $139 a year billed yearly (checked 9 October 2026), and Speechify’s help pages call Premium an annual subscription.

In the App Store the price depends on your country: the In-App Purchases list on Speechify’s App Store page shows yours. The US store lists Premium at $139.99.

Free trial? Cancel before it ends

A Premium trial turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel in time. Speechify’s own help article says that cancelling before the free trial ends prevents any future charges, and that after cancelling you keep Premium until the next billing date. On iPhone:

  1. Open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions, then Speechify.
  3. Tap Cancel Subscription. If there’s no Cancel button, it’s already cancelled.

Deleting the app doesn’t stop the subscription. These steps are from Apple’s guide Cancel a subscription from Apple. If you paid by card on speechify.com, cancel in your account settings on Speechify’s website instead.

What happens to your texts

Speechify keeps your library in its cloud, so what you save syncs between your phone and computer (its App Store description says so). The App Privacy section of its App Store page, filled in by the developer, lists Identifiers under “Data Used to Track You”, and contact info, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics as data that may be collected but isn’t linked to you.
